Guide — Moroccan fakia
Fakia platter: what it is, composition, price & occasions
Fakia — also written fakiha, fakya or faqia — is the Moroccan name for the assortment of dried fruit, nuts, dates and treats served on special occasions: Achoura, Ramadan, weddings and family celebrations. At Guermello you compose it by weight from the same dates, almonds, cashews and mixes hand-roasted since 1994, or choose a ready-made box from the showcase, delivered across Morocco.
What is a fakia platter made of?
A fakia is a platter or bowl of treats to nibble and share: dates (plain or stuffed), dried fruit such as figs and apricots, roasted nuts — almonds, walnuts, cashews, pistachios — often finished with candied fruit, chocolates or sugar-coated almonds (dragées). The mix is personal: there is no single recipe, which is exactly what makes it special.
In Morocco the word "fakia" usually refers to the festive presentation of these dried fruits and nuts — brought out for Achoura, Ramadan evenings or when hosting guests. Guermello shop products, sold by weight from 250 g, let you build your own instead of buying a standardised tray.
Fakia for Achoura: the dried-fruit tradition
For Achoura, Moroccan families traditionally prepare bags and platters of dried fruit and sweets to give away, especially to children: dates, almonds, walnuts, raisins and a few treats, from small individual bags to large family platters.
For a great Achoura fakia, start with a base of dates (they keep well and please everyone), add hand-roasted nuts and a sweet mix for the children. Quantities are easy to plan: shop packs start at 250 g and prices are shown per 100 g.
Fakia platters for weddings, Ramadan or a prestige version
For a wedding or reception, a fakia platter is usually larger and carefully composed: tiers of stuffed dates, roasted cashews and almonds, dried fruit, dragées and chocolates. That is what "prestige fakia" means in practice: a generous, beautifully presented assortment.
During Ramadan, fakia accompanies the evening and family visits — dates for breaking the fast, nut mixes for aperitif. Whatever the occasion, Guermello can build the platter from its shop (by weight, from 250 g) or deliver it ready-made via its priced gift boxes.
How much does a fakia cost in Morocco?
Fakia is priced by weight and composition: each family of products (dates, almonds, cashews, dried fruit, chocolates) has its own per-100 g or per-pack price on the product page. There is no single "fakia price" — two platters of the same size can differ depending on what you put in them.
As a reference, our ready-made tasting boxes — dates, nuts and dried fruit — are listed at 400 MAD (750 g) and 600 MAD (1 kg). Add delivery: from 20 MAD in Casablanca, 30 MAD in the suburbs, 35–45 MAD in other cities, free on orders over 600 MAD, cash on delivery.

How much does a fakia platter cost in Morocco?
Priced by weight and composition — there is no single price. Rates are shown per 100 g or per pack. References: our tasting boxes are 400 MAD (750 g) and 600 MAD (1 kg); delivery from 20 MAD, free over 600 MAD.

What is the difference between a fakia platter, box, basket and ballotin?
Presentation and format: a platter displays the products flat, a box assembles them, a basket or ballotin is another way of presenting the same dried-fruit assortment. All can be composed by weight or ordered ready-made at Guermello.
Do you offer prestige fakia platters or fakia for weddings?
Yes: for a wedding, reception or prestige version, compose a generous assortment (stuffed dates, nuts, dried fruit, dragées) by weight in the shop, or request a quote for a dressed presentation — answered within 48 h.

Do people put chocolates or dragées in a fakia?
Often, as a complement to the dried fruit: chocolates and coated treats join the fakia for celebrations and weddings. The shop sells them separately by weight, so you stay in control of the composition.
What does "miam plateau fakia" mean?
A foodie expression from social media: it describes a fakia platter that looks delicious enough to "miam" (eat with gusto). At Guermello, we hope your composition gets the same reaction.
