Buying guide — Moroccan dates
Moroccan Medjool dates buying guide
The Medjool date is one of Morocco’s most loved varieties: large, fleshy, with a caramel-like taste. But “Medjool” alone does not tell you enough — size, softness, purchase format and purpose (platter, pastry, gift) change what you should order. This guide helps you buy dates with confidence from a roaster that has been selecting them since 1994.

Why is the Medjool date so prized?
Medjool dates are known for their generous size, thick soft flesh and a naturally sweet flavour close to caramel and honey. Grown in Morocco, they are eaten as is, easy to stuff (pistachio, almond, walnut, cashew, ginger, pecan) and hold up beautifully on a festive platter — the variety hotels and caterers ask for most during Ramadan and Eid.
At Guermello the range starts with Moroccan Medjool dates sold by weight (price shown per 100 g), then extends by size and use: premium “royal” dates for showcase platters, and dates stuffed with pistachio, walnut or almond paste for celebrations.
Start with the use case
For a platter or festive table
Choose a large, soft, consistent size: stuffed dates (pistachio, walnut, cashew, ginger, pecan) sit beautifully on their own and add colour. Plan about 150–200 g per person on a mixed platter. Our pistachio-stuffed dates are the most requested choice for weddings and Ramadan.
For daily snacking and cooking
Classic Moroccan Medjool dates suit everyday snacking, pastries and homemade plant milks. The per-100 g price makes it easy to compare the real cost across sizes.
For gifting
Dates travel very well: order a few days before your event and get delivery within 24–48 h, or browse the gift boxes page for a curated, personalisable box.
The right size and price
Dates are sold by weight from 250 g, with the price shown per 100 g so you can compare sizes fairly. For a family, 500 g to 1 kg is a good start; for an event, plan generously and ask us for a quote on WhatsApp for larger quantities.
The whole dates and dried-fruit selection lives in the Dried Fruits category (and on the dedicated Dried fruits & dates hub), with cash on delivery and free delivery over 600 MAD.
Storage: what you need to know
- Keep dates in a sealed container, dry and away from light.
- At room temperature they keep for weeks; in the fridge during summer, even longer.
- Sugar crystallising on the surface is natural — the dates are perfectly fine.
- A best-before date is printed on every bag; reseal well after opening.
When to order for Ramadan and holidays
Dates are the first food of iftar: demand rises sharply in the two weeks before Ramadan, then ahead of Eid and Ashura. To secure the size and quantities you want, order 5–7 days ahead — stuffed varieties sell out first.
